Almost Fall

At a time when the heat is blistering, it's comforting to think of cooling fall weather. This maple species (Chinese?) shot in the woods of New Hampshire is naturally colorful when others thrive showing monotonous green. Not sure what color these leaves turn when all their neighbors briefly burst forth in brilliant reds and yellows, but I can imagine that this tree lives on indignantly during such brash, temporary displays by others.
